About Jefferson’s Perioperative Nursing Program
Jefferson has a reputation for exceptional nursing care. We operate in a collegial, nurturing and professional environment, focused first and foremost on our patients. When people choose to become a Jefferson nurse, they stay and grow professionally.
At Jefferson we pride ourselves on an exceptional nurse-to-patient ratio, which allows our nurses to focus on their practice. Our perioperative nurses have direct responsibility and authority for their patients’ care – taking their patients through pre-op or the holding area, then into the operating room, and then, finally, to the post anesthesia care unit. They work as part of a professional and expert team that includes the attending surgeon, resident, scrub nurse and circulating nurse.
Jefferson has 58 operating rooms including four at the Jefferson Surgical Center (an ambulatory outpatient surgical center), 11 at Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience and 11 at Methodist Hospital, located in South Philadelphia.
Jefferson’s Perioperative Nursing Program offers flexible schedules to accommodate our staff’s personal lives and interests. Some nurses work 10-hour shifts, others choose 12 hours, while some work weekends only. The program offers four weeks vacation and five personal days annually and comprehensive and flexible benefit programs. Tuition reimbursement is available for internal and external programs and on-site continuing educational programs are available.
