Rachel Behrendt Receives ONS Cancer Nursing Education Award
Rachel Behrendt, DNP, APN-C, RN, AOCNS, has received the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Mary Nowotny Excellence in Cancer Nursing Education Award for 2010. Dr. Behrendt is senior director of the MAGNET Program and Staff Development. Prior to joining Jefferson in late 2009, Dr. Behrendt was an oncology clinical nurse specialist at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Jersey.
The award recognizes and supports excellence in cancer nursing education and is named in memory of Dr. Mary Nowotny, a well-known oncology nurse educator and teacher. “It is humbling to be acknowledged for my efforts and the impact they have had on cancer care in central New Jersey,” commented Dr. Behrendt. “Over the last 7 years I have worked to improve the lives of patients with cancer through providing comprehensive education to nurses regarding cancer treatments, symptom management, the fundamentals of chemotherapy, and the benefits of becoming certified in this every-changing specialty.”
