Australian Nurse Visits Jefferson to Learn More about NP Role
Tracey Nicholls, RN, MSN, (left) a nurse practitioner from The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Adelaide, South Australia, visited Jefferson this week to observe in the Department of Otolaryngology. Pictured with her is Mary Ann McGinley, PhD, RN, senior vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer and Troy DeRose, CRNP, RNFA.
She shadowed DeRose in the Emergency Department and Operating Room and during consultations with patients. As there are less than 320 NPs in her country and only 28 in South Australia, Nicholls expects to return home with a greater understanding of the scope of practice and clinical guidelines to help establish the NP role for ear, nose and throat specialty nurses in Australia. Her visit to Jefferson and three other hospitals in the U.S. and the U.K. is made possible by an overseas scholarship awarded to her by the Australian government.
