Specialty Certifications Enhance Your Career
& Positively Impact Patient Care and Safety

Jefferson places high value on professional growth and clinical advancement and encourages nurses to become certified in their specialties. Certification formally recognizes specialized nursing knowledge, skills, experience and competence Certification benefits both the patient and the professional nurse.

According to the position statement from the American Board of Nursing Specialties, “increasingly complex/client needs within the current healthcare delivery system, are best met when registered nurses, certified in specialty practice, provide nursing care.” An American Association of Critical Care Nurses’ study demonstrated that certification has a significant positive impact on patient care and patient safety.

Studies also indicate that there is a positive performance difference in certified nurses and a preference for hiring certified nurses over non-certified nurses.

Full-time nurses at Jefferson who complete specialty certification will receive a $1000 bonus and this amount will be prorated for part-time nurses. In addition, Jefferson will reimburse nurses for the first time and renewal exam fees.
